Getting LiveCode to Detect Android Test Targets

Post by Gage » Mon Feb 23, 2015 10:39 pm

Hello,

I just got a new phone yesterday (Android LG G3), and I was going to set it up as a test target, but LiveCode is not detecting it when I have it plugged in.

I have enabled Developer Options on the phone, ticked "Allow USB Debugging", and connected it with the USB.

My previous Motorola device was detected simply by being plugged in. Is there a catch-all procedure to get LiveCode to recognize new devices?

Thanks!

Phil E.

Hi Phil,
Don't know if this will help you but it got my Galaxy to show up.
Download the drivers from LG and use those not the generic win ones.

Simon,

Thanks for the reply! I saw the word "win" in there, and figured it warrants mentioning I am on a Mac desktop.

Will try the linked material now.

Cheers,
Phil E.

Besides drivers, some devices require you to add an entry to the invisible ".android" file. You might check the web site to see if your device is one of those. LG is a pretty big name so I kind of doubt it, but I had to do that for my old Archos tablet.

Thanks Jacque,

I just figured it out. I am used to selecting "Allow USB Debugging" and having that work. Apparently, with this phone, I just have to manually enable that feature every time I plug the device in. Then LiveCode will detect it without a problem.

I appreciate your responses!

Good news Phil.
So, LG G3 disables USB debugging each time after it is unplugged?
And for some reason I thought you were a Win guy, I'll have to set up Android on my Mac someday.

Simon,

Yes, it looks that way. It's kind of odd, actually - if my phone is currently plugged in, the setting itself goes into a disabled mode, so I can't check/uncheck the selection. Only while it's not plugged in. Then, it doesn't really apply that setting. So it's kind of confusing if you ask me. Unfortunately, LG didn't.

Got it figured out anyway. Also worth mentioning that I did install the LG driver available on their website, though I didn't do due diligence to see if that factored into the solution.

As for me, I'm an Apple guy in all regards except iPhone. I love the configurability of Android far too much, and I'm not too much of a iPhone design addict. The new ones are headed in the right direction, but I feel Android is already there. Mac Mini desktop has absolutely blown my mind, on the other hand! :D

Cheers,
Phil E.
