How to think about programming with Livecode

I'm basically just looking for some advice. A friend of mine at Starbucks wants me to build him an app, but I'm having trouble thinking about how to design it with Livecode. It's basically just a tool for memorizing the menu. Everything on their menu has certain characteristics -- flavors (vanilla, ...

Re: Video Tutorials?

Okay, so I went ahead and signed up. Everything works fine. I figured I'd post what happened here in case anyone else was wondering. If you already own a license -- say commercial desktop development, and then you want to jump on board the summer academy, it doesn't conflict with what you already ha...

Re: Video Tutorials?

Since I already own Livecode for commercial desktop development, would getting the personal mobile option affect the version already installed? I want to do it, but it doesn't seem to mention such a scenario. I'm tempted to just sign up and see what happens. It says they won't charge me until the en...

Re: Video Tutorials?

Thanks, Mark! I checked on the summer academy and found the page here http://www.runrev.com/newsletter/april/issue109/ This one might be out of date because when I click sign up it just takes me to the Rev store, and there doesn't appear to be anything on there about the academy. Am I in the right p...

Video Tutorials?

Back when I first purchased Livecode when it was called Runtime Revolution, they had a whole collection of video tutorials. What happen to them? I found a few on the runrev website, but it looks like that part of their website is incomplete. There's database errors on the page, and not all the video...

Re: Can a video behave like a backgrop?

Looks like I'm not getting home tonight. Having some truck problems like always. On a positive note, I'll have off time to get some coding done. Oh and that video was purchased by the restaurant. It was in HD when I received their resources. So I had to take the size way down to even make the progra...

Re: Can a video behave like a backgrop?

It might work better with a gif animation instead of a video. But I don't have an easy way to convert my .mov to a gif. The original video was 444MB. I got that down to 16MB, but that's still a lot for a 14 second video. Does anybody here have a way to convert an mov to a gif animation? I looked aro...

Can a video behave like a backgrop?

I have some resources that I own, such as images and video loops. I learned in the manual that a stack can take up the whole screen. This appears to be used for some games and kiosks. That's essentially what I want to do, only with a quicktime video instead of an image backdrop. I tried this myself,...

Re: Creating a Code Library

Thanks a lot for your help. I figured it's one of those give and take situations. LiveCode makes it much easier to be outrageously productive even when you're just starting off, but along with that simplicity comes sacrifices. Thanks again for your assistance.

Creating a Code Library

I have a question regarding LiveCode’s code library paradigm. I came from Java and Python, so I’m used to organizing my code into libraries to make future projects easier. However, I’m not 100% sure how to achieve this in LiveCode yet. To be honest, working with LiveCode feels like I’m working backw...

Re: Advice? Almost Sold my First LiveCode Program!

Thank you, Walt. I will definitely keep that in mind. They must think my program is much more complex than it really is, though. There's not much to it, honestly. The only necessary resource is SQlite, which should be bundled with the standalones as specified in the output settings. Regardless thoug...

Re: Advice? Almost Sold my First LiveCode Program!

Hi sanoski, Congratulations I had a similar request, they wanted to be safe(sure) that there was no spyware. I gave the source code in file text and they were able to see that there was no spyware Best regards Jean-Marc Thanks for the advice, jmburnod. I'm not sure what to tell them about support, ...

Advice? Almost Sold my First LiveCode Program!

I require some advice. I recently wrote a very simple application for studying. It basically unifies notes with media resources for emphasizing certain points. I only created it for personal use. It used material I did not own, so I had planned to abandon it afterwards. But my friend pressed me to s...
