Video Tutorials?
Back when I first purchased Livecode when it was called Runtime Revolution, they had a whole collection of video tutorials. What happen to them? I found a few on the runrev website, but it looks like that part of their website is incomplete. There's database errors on the page, and not all the videos are listed. Why would they burry perfectly good video tutorials? If I remember correctly, there was free tutorials and others that were accessible when you purchased Revolution (now Livecode). The biggest problem I've seen with Livecode is the lack of adequate documentation. The manual is great, but it's no where near enough to master Transcript. It barely qualifies as an introduction. Livecode desperately needs a book.

Re: Video Tutorials?
I too struggled with LC until the Summer Academy came along (now into week 2 of the September Academy, which runs for 7 weeks so still time to jump onboard). Its basically free, with an enticement to purchase one of the mobile options at the end. Anyway, I found watching Elanor code in LC every week for an hour basically helped me over the hump. Now I am fully qualified to make all kinds of silly mistakes, and am enjoying the heck out of itsanoski wrote:The manual is great, but it's no where near enough to master Transcript. I can't recommend it more highly. It walks you through building a complete, fully skinned and relatively sophisticated application (it use SQLite for example to store data from the program and includes a number of nifty presentations by Ben Beamont on interface elements and design). If I can fault it at all it would be because they don't run lots more of these hands on online seminar sessions, because I know I would attend them all. But that is most likely a resource allocation issue for them.

Thanks, Mark! I checked on the summer academy and found the page here

This one might be out of date because when I click sign up it just takes me to the Rev store, and there doesn't appear to be anything on there about the academy. Am I in the right place? How do I sign up?

Re: Video Tutorials?
Thanks again! I'll check it out.
Re: Video Tutorials?
Since I already own Livecode for commercial desktop development, would getting the personal mobile option affect the version already installed? I want to do it, but it doesn't seem to mention such a scenario. I'm tempted to just sign up and see what happens. It says they won't charge me until the end of October. But I'd like to know anyway
Re: Video Tutorials?
Okay, so I went ahead and signed up. Everything works fine. I figured I'd post what happened here in case anyone else was wondering. If you already own a license -- say commercial desktop development, and then you want to jump on board the summer academy, it doesn't conflict with what you already have installed. You do download Livecode again, though. That worried me at first. But it doesn't overwrite, or at least, it didn't overwrite on my Mac. Now there are two. I renamed one Livecode4m and one Livecode4c so I'll know the difference. But you do have to make sure to associate the right license. If you already have one -- like I did -- you'll have to select the right one when it asks you to authenticate after installing. If you select the same license, you'll just end up with two versions of the same program. Perhaps there's a way to do this as an add-on, but I'm too impatient. So, in a nutshell, no serious issues. I'm watching the first archived video now. Many thanks to Mark for the excellent suggestion.
