LiveCode 7 compiles 3x as big in MB compared to LC 6.6.5 !

Hi LiveCode friends

Could it be that LiveCode 7.0.0 (and the 7.0.1rc also) do compile an app for iOS 3x as big in MB-Size than Version 6.6.5?

My App (the .app-file) when compiled with 6.6.5 is 9.9 MB in size

My App (the .app-file) whne compiled with 7.0.0 is 35.2 MB in size !

Whoa !

Problem is, the app in the iPhone works slower, reaction time of menus and calculations are noticeably slower and that is pretty bad feature for a new version !

Or am I making a beginner mistake somewhere?

I surely hope so.

For the time beeing I will not work with Version 7.0.0 and hopefully they correct this later on, or you tell me where I went wrong.

I also noticed, LC 7 does not convert the fonts "right" as LC 6.6.5 still does.

F.i. Futura Condensec-Medium is converted into a large wide font.

Many fonts in LC 7 are converted differently, bigger, wider, maybe thats part of the problem.

Maybe it installs many fonts into the .app-file? Or maybe its not connected to the size-change.

Hi Tomi,

if I remember right, the big file size is a result of the UNICODE libraries that are now part of LC 7x.

LC 7 does not convert the fonts "right" as LC 6.6.5 still does.

Sorry, what dou you mean with "convert"?
LC never converted fonts!?

Font Conversions. App to iOS for iPhone.

Before LC 7 conversion was good from a small condensed font, f.i. Futura-Condensed Medium (in Mac) it went to a similar font on the iPhone/iOS.

Now with LC 7 font Futura-Condensed Medium is translated into a much wider, bolder font, does not fit in flds anymore.

I also tried
Helvetica Neue Condensed Bold
and
Avenir Next Condensed Medium

Same thing, no conversion to a small condensed font.

I stay with LC 6.6.5 as long as I can, especially because of the size increase in MB x 3.5 !
Slow apps are a pain!

AHA! You mean font substitution!

I remember that something has also changed here, will see if I can find it in the release notes or somewhere else...
