Moving Files Part II - I know the IP Address!

I had asked previously if anyone had a recommendation for the route to take when moving files (videos and picts) from a Laptop running MacOs to an iPad.

Would it help if I knew the IP Address or the "name" of the iPad or iPhone? I can find that ....

And again - is this something I can do if I explore FTP more closely?
