I don't think this is illegal
From google
I converted all the icons into a font with a very long name. follow Scott's instructions for using it here;Feel free to use, remix, and re-share the icons in your products. The icons are available under the CC-BY license. We'd love attribution in your app's "about" screen, but it's not required. The only thing we ask is that you not re-sell the icons

(just replace fontawesome with this fonts name)
Windows users use Character Map to get the codes I think Mac users get it from fontBook(?).

Edit 1; Copy the .ttf file using the Copy Files in the standalone settings to get it to show up when run as a standalone.
