Standalone application settings not working 8.1

In a new session, in 8.1, I tried to make a standalone with a splash stack and a working stack. Both stacks open just fine in v8.1 and work as advertised.

No dice.

The splash stack shows in the stacks pane of the application settings, but I cannot add the working stack file. The dialog shows up. and I can choose the required stack file, but it is not loaded in the field listing the stack files in the proposed application. Tried two separate stack pairs, nothing.
