Deploying Rev Media to the web

Post by tfindlay »

Do I have to purchase the Studio version in order to deploy a Rev Media stack for the internet?

Hi Terry,

as far as I understand it, you don't. You will need studio or higher, if you need additional features, only the higher editions offer. Remember, what you do in a browser now is not yet ready for release yet though. revMedia 4 is still clearly tagged an alpha version. That said (and given how impressed I am how stable it already is for an alpha version) you can use the time to test this release, help to track down incorrect behaviour and prepare something that really will work in a browser, once release quality is reached. Not too far from now I suppose. RR communicates their deadline quite confidently, reading the press releases. And I think they can. If your project already works, that's wonderful! To get back to your original question, as far as I can understand the press releases, what you see in revMedia 4 alpha will be what you get for free once it is final. And even better.

Cheers,

Malte

If you want your alpha revlet to be seen by the whole world (or at least that portion that is willing to install an alpha plugin), then you will need a web host of some sort. One that you can upload your revlet and an html file that embeds it (like the one the compiler makes for you).

I use Dreamhost myself, and I've been putting my test apps up there: http://nonsanity.com/rev/MasterRevMind/

It turns out that I had downloaded the wrong version. All is well now. It's good to know there is an active community supporting Rev Media. Thanks for your replies.

Terry
