Other than for compatibility? Never, apparently, but it would have been nice if it had been eh?

The LiveCode engine is the MetaCard engine, updated and expanded.

I don't believe any version of this engine supported that HyperCard syntax.

Since 'checkmark' is a reserved name we can not use it in LC. How would you name a pseudo property of the menus instead of 'checkmark'?

I am still refining a more generalized solution to the problem and sollicit input on how to name it.

I assume (?) that the reason the HyperCard way was removed was for
a good reason . . . .

Yes. MC was compatible with SuperCard, HyperCard, and several flavors of 'nix, all of which handled menus differently. MC needed to work with all of them so implemented its own system.

well it is not a star. Mind you there are different ways to mark a menu item.

set the star of menuItem pItem of button xyz
