LiveCode Drop Tools HELP

Post by wanglucas »

Hello Im starting my first ever SWE internship tomorrow with a small business and the manager wants me to look into externals and drop tools for making a visual API.

I understand the concept of externals and have found the appropriate documentation to implement it with livecode

I however cant find anything regarding livecode drop tools and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.

Do you mean Ken Ray's DropTools?

I really think you may need to call him back today and find out, since you can't solve problems you don't have at least a fuzzy idea of.

There is a lot of information about externals, but it is widely scattered and not well documented. I believe Monte has some examples posted, and wasn't trevix just running a thread about them? I'll see if I can find that link. I also think Lagi had posted a link to the use-list with some information about a successful use of externals.

Primarily though, what we really need is for the documentation to be cleaned up and made useful to read through if anyone really expects externals to go anywhere. Of course, it maybe that no one expects that to happen heh.

Edit - I guess Trevix was actually looking for information about the LCB-FFI, not externals :?

From what I understand, externals have largely been deprecated in favor of LiveCode Builder. Drop tools usually are small utilities or features that can be added to an app by users or developers. Those would correspond to LC widgets.

But getting more info would help. It also may be that the employer doesn't know enough about LC to know that for the most part, neither of these are usually required outside of the ones already provided in the IDE.

A description of the project would be good to know.

Me neither. I have never personally spoken to anyone on the phone about LC forum stuff.

Ah.

I got the idea from a sloppy reading of the thread. Where else?

I don't know wanglucas well enough to annoy him.

This (partial) comedy (of errors) brought to you by the makers of "Spam-doh" and "Atsalottabrass". We're here all week. Please try the ham
