QuickTime Movies in revlets...

Post by Dixie » Tue Aug 18, 2009 11:17 am

Gentlemen... Ladies,

Anyone had any sucess getting QuickTime movies to play in a revlet? I am failing miserably... I have no problem with images, but movies! The rev plugin hangs and does not even finish loading when there is a QT movie in the mix. Any help would be appreciated.... especially by the cat, as it is starting to get kicked.

Hi Dixie,
I dont have acces to the revlets yet (Studio license), but I read that saving the Quicktime movies as hinted or streaming movies it should work.
As I said, I just have been reading it. But your cat would probably prefer you trying this.
regards to your cat and you of course
Bernd

I should have been a little more specific, in that it is QTVR movies that I would like to see played inside a revlet.

(Klaus, please don't worry about the cat, sometimes as she peers into the screen I get the feeling that she knows more about this machine than I do... She also has a suit of body armour that RoboCop would be proud of)

But, back to the problem...

Dixie,
again from reading: others seem to get stuck also at displaying QTVR in a revlet, maybe Klaus has better news.
Anyways QTVR is harmful to cats, makes them lightheaded, so beware...

Bernd

No, sorry, I do not have the time (yet) to play with Revlets (or even my new ON-REV account), so I cannot be of any help here...

Have you had any success? I've managed to access QT movies in a standalone, after getting over the way the Mac creates its application, but have had no luck with the revlet. I've tried movies in the same folder as the revlet, and one level below. Nothing.

I made up a very basic revlet that plays a movie. It is a small avi form an old Canon Ixus. It seems that in a revlet the alwaysbuffer is always on. That means that the movie controls are not accessible. That's why I made two buttons to start and stop the movie and a scrollbar to 'scratch' through the movie. Enter this into your favorite browser:

Also on the list there was a discussion and Colin Holgate posted a revlet with a movie player that displays HD content.

By editing the source URL for the video in the link above (the HD movie player) and changing it to "http://images.apple.com/quicktime/galle ... square.mov" I could get the QTVR to load.

BUT... It doesn't look like any of the mouse or keyboard events QTVRs use to manipulate the image are getting passed to it by Rev. I don't know if there's a way to force the events to target the player or if Rev just isn't set up to handle that.

If you click into the movie player (the VR movie) then you can use the arrowkeys to navigate through the VR. It is definitely not as smooth or nice as with the mouse but at least you can look around.
This is on a mac OSX 10.5.8
