Is there a way to install and activate LiveCode version 6 on a Mac? What is the latest MacOS that version 6 will run on, please?

The best place to check these things is in the release notes.

The notes for version 6.0.1 are a bit different.

The question re "LiveCode ver 6" needs to be refined to one of the subversions of LiveCode 6
as their release dates were spread across a 3 year period, and LiveCode version 7 subversions
started being released 2 years before the last version 6 release.

That won't work as you'll be unable to purchase a license for anything pre version 6.0.1.

LiveCode ver 6 specifically because (1) I'm a n00bie, and (2) I have never coded before, and (3) version 6 is the learning tutorial that I have and (4) version 6 is the version that my "instructor" has and using themselves; and (5) I can't match the current version lessons to the screenshots and exercises in the learning tutorial that I am using. I'm trying so hard to find something that I can match "pictures" with so I can find the right thing to click in the interface so I can learn. I don't want to give up; this is a challenge. Thanks for any help.

The release notes Richmond was referring too can either be found on the downloads website (dunbarx's link),

...however, I get that you may not have the IDE installed yet, so the website would be more accessible.

Version 6 had a long run, and the IDE changed many times in functionality, but not very much in control placement or general placement of menu items. Is your instructor specifically running 6.0.1, or just 6.x ? If the later, I would certainly recommend (out of those choices) to go with 6.5.x or higher, and I would *definitely* recommend 6.7.9 or higher if you are going to wind up doing anything with 'https:' websites, as 6.5.2 (and earlier) are problematical in that area.

Staying within the 6.x series should not pose any issues that I can think of with readily identifying and locating anything going on from your instructor's side.

... I do not know for sure. The 6.x series are 32 bit, if your current OSX allows running 32 bit software, they should run just fine. IF it does not, your alternative would be to either downgrade your OSX version to one that allows 32 bit apps to run, or (and this would certainly be my choice) download and install a virtual machine software to install an older version of OSX that allows 32 bit apps, as this is far safer than actually running an old Operating System.

Well: I have 2 questions:

1. Which version 6 is the one your "instructor" has?

2. Why do you use quotation marks around "instructor"?

In English using quotation marks around a noun such as instructor implies that
that word is not what it appears to be" so an "instructor" is not an instructor, but
something else.

Pretty sure LiveCode 6.7.11 (last version of 6 series), will not work past macOS 10.14.x (Mohave), 10.15 Catalina and above will only run 64bit coded apps.
If you can't run 32bit then my advice would be to just move on to highest version, and learn to recognize the graphic interface differences along the way ( they're not dramatically different visual changes,), or maybe just ask your instructor to update his tutorials with more recent screen-shot picts because they're maybe five+ years out-dated now.

Heh Paul, you and I have very different ideas on how different "dramatically different" must be.

Speaking only for myself, it is different enough to throw me off completely on things I don't even think about in the pre-8.x series

Sure, it's a subjective opinion.
If you hide the widget stuff then the tools palette isn't much different, I guess the property inspector layout is quite a bit different (better IMO).
But here's some visual comparison:

Well, like it or not, I'm sure it had to change in certain ways to be able to support the on-the-fly modification for Widgets, might as well get used to it (or take a crack at building an alternative PI yourself)

Hum, I don't use it other than for answering (some) questions, and much like our friend the OP I am not interested in it (although the OP may change their POV, hopefully), and like quite a few others here I've already modified my tools of choice to suit my flow and made my own IDE for my use.
