Forum wide naming convention for Livecode Create?

Post by Simon Knight » Mon Aug 12, 2024 4:37 pm

I am making this post having just searched for "Livecode Create" using the forums built in search engine. It returns the standard message that the two terms are too common. So I wonder if during the transition period a searchable naming convention should be adopted when referring to Livecode Create . For example "Livecode_Create" or "LCCreate".

Thoughts?

That might be a good idea.
But there’s also the complication that Create has its own forum: https://discourse.livecode.com/

It seems that "LCC" is a popular abbreviation on the discourse forum plus its brief.

Have RunRev indicated that the discourse forum is the one to be used or is this forum going to be updated with sections for both LCC and LCL (Livecode Legacy)?

That might be more of a solution than a problem. For support needs, Discourse is awesome. I really like what it does for the Nextcloud and SuiteCRM communities.

PHPBB hasn't kept current with modern feature or design trends, while Discourse has become a de facto standards bearer raising user expectations.

Maybe having both allows a cleaner break between the LC and LCC ecosystems, where the legacy project uses a legacy forum, and the new shiny project uses a new shiny forum.

Yes, I totally agree with that! A modern forum/support facility is necessary to attract and support users in LCC.
The complication lies more in the fact that so much coding knowledge is stored in this old forum that will still be very relevant also in LCC.

So I suppose we'll often need to reference threads in this forum on the Discourse one. But I guess we'll have to live with that - if I understand correctly, the idea of migrating everything in this forum to a more modern setting has long since been abandoned, due to cost and technical hurdles?
