Audio & Video Export

Post by richmond62 »

It having been claimed for years that audio & video export was not possible from LC, a single person managed exactly that in less than a day:

If this is true, I wonder why, they never bothered to justify their decision: which in the light of how quickly this chap made it work seems remarkably short-sighted.

Interesting, and I do not use these sorts of gadgetry.

Seems like a winner; I would post this to the use-list, where I think they more often look around.

Who are 'they' who 'look around'?

Far too many people (including those people huddled in an office in "Prince's street" in Edinburgh) avoid looking at the OpenXtalk forums where they might, just, learn quite a lot of useful stuff (instead of digging themselves a hole which may prove suicidal in the end).

At the moment OXTL7 (derived from LC 7.1.4 community) can ONLY run and deliver standalones on Haiku OS, UNIX, and Steam, MacOS PPC, MacOS Intel, MacOS ARM, Windows 32-bit as far back as at least XP, and Windows 64-bit. Which makes LC 'classic' look fairly shabby.

If those who only look at the Use-list cannot be bothered to shift their bahookies ta tak a glisk intil the OpenXtalk forums, that's their own, silly, blinkered problem.

ALL of what is going on on the OpenXtalk forums is only possible because of the marvellous work done by LC (admittedly before that 'crisis' when Fraser, Benjamin, and some others decamped), but it should be fairly clear to most people that as far as 'classic' is concerned the baton has ended up in other hands.

Whether the promised trial version of CREATE will ever materialise has yet to be seen, but even if you are waiting for it, it will not hurt anyone to take a 'walk on the wild side' right now.

I'm sure Craig means the LIVECODE use-list.

I am sure he does, there is no OpenXtalk Use-list: my comment still holds as far as I can see.

How many applications have been made with those versions?

I can see no theoretical reason not to port my Devawriter Pro too these platforms.

A pragmatic reason not to basically breaks down like this:

1. Who the fudge needs a program to digitise Indic texts on what are currently niche things?

2. I wonder whether I can be bothered to set up lots of machines with these systems for testing just for the 'fun' of it.

That's an odd question when those versions have been available for less than a week.

Thanks. Early to expect finished apps. But how are the app ecosystems for Haiku or Mac PPC? What does the demand side of those app economies look like?

Haiku is an exciting operating system that needs apps and development environments to help it gain traction.

An xTalk IDE that functions on Haiku, and offers developers the chance to develop stuff, not only for Haiku, but also for other operating systems, should help Haiku gain traction.

Although some of us couldn't give a flying fig about 'economies', but do care about an xTalk IDE being available for a maximum number of people.

I'm in the same boat. To that end, I've forked LiveCode Community at the point where LiveCode left it: the final state of its develop branch from July 2021 (version 9.7.0-dp-1).

It now builds and tests automatically on GitHub for Windows, macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Linux. The only changes are the ones needed to build it with today's compilers and systems; nothing in LiveCode was fixed or improved. Every change is documented in the repo, and a check on every push makes sure that list stays complete.

There's also a downloadable release with installers for all three platforms.

If anybody wants to start a brand new fork from where LiveCode Community left off, this might be the easiest way to do it right now.
