I would like to see improvements made to the viable watcher in the debugger.
Right now it's not possible to instance a seperate window to watch a variable when the variable is empty or less than 1 line long - it would be useful to be able to create an independant window regardless of the state of a variable.
Keep the variable watcher windows visible at all times, rather than making them vanish when the script window has focus. I am working on a multi-monitor setup and it would be much easier to debug if I did not have to constantly keep clicking off of the debugger window to get the variable watcher windows to reappear.
Add a checkbox to the variable watcher windows to turn word wrapping on and off, and add a horizanal scrollbar if needed.

I think the small variable windows is nice as well.
But some of your other worries are fixable. Turn off "hide palettes" and turn on "horizontal scroll" in the preferences.
Word wrapping is off. If you had it on, there would probably be issues with line breaks. That could be dicey.
