Midi in/out

Midi in/out
Some time ago, the subject of mating Max/MSP to LiveCode was brought up and answered with the objection that LiveCode would probably be too slow for live streams of control data. But there would be a plethora of music education-oriented applications made possible, if one could simply read into LiveCode what Midikey had been hit on a midi instrument and to output a midi signal to this or possibly another such midi instrument. All necessary data would just be pitch with note on-note off, optional velocity and possibly a midi channel number. The in/output would have to come through USB.
And LiveCode would at present be without competition, since Adobe Director does not have any midi Xtra left that would work with newer versions of the MacOS (used to be XMidi and SequenceXtra by Sibelius).

I am not familiar with this program.
Kind regards

Re: Midi in/out
Thank you, Bernd, for the link.
I'll follow to see if something will come up there, but for the moment, with reference to the UDI-program one can only play a stream of notes. Yet for the purpose of music training, there would have to be a possibility to interact using a midi instrument attached via USB. This is a different type of task though.

I would love to vote, but I don't have a login for that section - the normal logins to LC or to the forum don't seem to be working.

Dear lupus,
You need to create an account. If you don't manage, write to support.
Kind regards,

LC support replied that I would have to purchase an LC Developer license in order to have access to the Quality Center...
Re: Midi in/out
Hi folks,
votes or not, I strongly doubt that we will see Midi support of any kind in LiveCode in the next years!

Hi Klaus,
What is the motivation for your doubts?

Re: Midi in/out
Hi Mark,
No, I just think that this has VERY low priority for RunRev!
1. It is no secret that a new field object (very long overdue) will come with LC 5,
which will be published sometime later this year.
2. Next thing might be, hopefully, an overhaul of the graphics engine (= smooth handling of rotation scaling etc.
of graphics/images) which is a pain right now and does not come up with the current abilities of modern machines and OSes.
3. Then a complete overhault of the multimedia engine (playback of sonds/video whatever) is MORE than overdue.
Currently we have "QuickTime or bust".
So even with the current fast pace of the development one can see that MIDI support will not be available in
the next one or two years.
But of course I would really LOVE to be proven wrong!

Re: Midi in/out
H Klaus,
Sure, it is low priority, but for someone who knows what s/he is doing, it should be raily easy. RunRev could develop an external in-house or ask someone who already made an attempt at creating one. Such an external could be sold as an add-on. If I were going to spend a few 100s on MIDI-equipment, I would probably be very eager to spend another 50 or so on a MIDI external.
Perhaps, it could also be part of the QuickTime overhaul.
