RevSpeak not working in Windows XP

Re: RevSpeak not working in Windows XP
Hi Dan,
a while ago I made a very simple revlet that uses revSpeak. A revlet is a plug-in based Revolution/Livecode stack that you can view in a Web-browser. If you call a revlet for the first time on a computer it asks you to install the plug-in it needs. You could test on the computer where revspeak does not work to test if this works. Just another way to narrow this down.

Re: RevSpeak not working in Windows XP
Hi Bernd,
Glad you joined this post. I tried clicking on the revlet link: http://berndniggemann.on-rev.com/helloWorld/ and all that happened was the web page changed to a blank white screen with a big dark grey square in the middle of it and the words "Test page for helloWorld" on the top of the page. So, it appears that the revlet won't work on my Mac using the Google Chrome browser, which incidentally is my default browser. I then tried it on Safari and Firefox and it worked fine. I wonder what it means that it didn't work on Chrome, but worked on Safari and Firefox? Any ideas?

Re: RevSpeak not working in Windows XP
To All of You Who have Joined this Post,
I forgot to mention that when I have asked LiveCode to make the standalone I get the following message: "Standalone Application was successfully built". But, it also said that a warning occurred: Legacy database drivers not found, using latest drivers instead. Location was: /Users/danurbauer/REVOLUTION ALL/Dan's Rev Projects/Runtime/Windows/x86-32/Externals/Legacy. I didn't think much of it, especially because it said "…database drivers not found." I wasn't building a database so I thought it didn't matter, but now that I think about it and re-read the warning, perhaps it does matter. Any ideas?

Re: RevSpeak not working in Windows XP
Hi Dan,
I seem to remember that the plug-in does not work with Chrome yet. So it really does only mean that the plug-in needs a little update...
There might be newer browsers on Windows that don't work either with the plug-in. So if your granddaughter wants to try the revlet and it doesn't work she might want to try different browsers.
Unfortunately I don't anything about Windows and am of little help here.
Kind regards
Bernd

Re: RevSpeak not working in Windows XP
Hi Dan,
What else do you have in REVOLUTION ALL? Do you somehow expect Revolution/LiveCode to find more default files there? Do you have your externals there? Do you keep the entire application there? Did you put there anything that was originally installed somewhere else by Rev/LC? Is the revspeech.dll really inside a folder Externals next to the executable file of your standalone?
To get rid of the error, you could go to the Compatibility & Updates section in Revolution's preferences window and download the legacy files (again). If this doesn't work, just remove those legacy files entirely from your computer and remove the preferences file as well. You can find the preferences file somewhere in "C:/Documents and Settings/USER/Application Data/Runtime Revolution/...." (you need to look around, I'm not entirely sure of the current location since the rebranding to LiveCode).
It is a bad idea to use "Search for required inclusions" because this may take a very long time and you get in trouble if a stack is protected by a password or can't be accessed for any other reason.
Anyway, besides all this, I already suggested using a substack. I know this works, if you do it the correct way. If you don't like the suggestion, then I don't know of any other solutions. Good luck.

Re: RevSpeak not working in Windows XP
Hi Mark,
Here are the answers to your questions: What else do you have in REVOLUTION ALL? All that is in REVOLUTION ALL are stacks ending with .rev or .livecode and a few .pdf files. Do you somehow expect Revolution/LiveCode to find more default files there? No. Do you have your externals there? No. Do you keep the entire application there? No. Did you put there anything that was originally installed somewhere else by Rev/LC? No. Is the revspeech.dll really inside a folder Externals next to the executable file of your standalone? Yes.
When I purchased Rev Studio I downloaded it, and dragged the downloaded app folder into my Applications folder as it suggested I do. Rev Studio is in my Applications folder and the subfolders in Rev Studio are:
4.00-gm-1
Documentation
Documents
Externals
Database drivers
db: mysql,odbc,oracle,postgresql,sqlite bundles
rev: browser,db,font,speech,videograbber,xml,zip bundles***
Plugins
Resources
Revolution.app
Runtime
Scripts
Style
Toolset
Installation data
Supporting materials
Third party
In Rev Preferences, Compatibility it won't let me download the legacy files again. What are the names of some of the legacy drivers? Are they the ones above marked with ***? What is the name of the preference file?
I tried your solution, but it didn't work. This is how I built it:
1. Main stack name: Test of RevSpeak
2. Has "field1" and btn "Speak" on it
3. Code in btn:
put fld "Field1" into tSayIt
revSpeak tSayIt
4. Made subStack of Test of RevSpeak, named it Speech Wrapper
5. In the stack script editor of Test of RevSpeak, in a preOpenStack handler, placed your suggested code.
6. Then made standalone.
7. Tried it in Windows XP, under Parallels. Didn't work.
8. Tried it in Windows XP, on partitioned disk. Didn't work.
Mark, I want to thank you for your help and suggested code. I don't know if I am ever going to get this figured out, but I want you to know I appreciate your help and suggestions.
And to everyone else who has helped with ideas, suggestions, comments, etc. please know that I appreciate your time and efforts. We've all spent enough time on this, unfortunately without a good outcome, but, what do they say, "ya win some, ya lose some." Thanks again to everyone who contributed.

Hi Dan,
I made standalone of your stack without changing anything. It works perfectly on Windows XP. I use a "real" PC, no Bootcamp or emulator.
Kind regards,
Mark

Hi Dan,
For now, I don't know anymore. I'd say, read everything again and make sure that you really do things as written. Don't forget anything, even the smallest mistake may be fatal. Make sure that the sound volume is high enough
Best regards,
Mark
