Best lesson for Mac - Undo doesn't work
Hey, just getting started with this. Having problems following the lessons. For example in the "Hello World" lesson they didn't explain that in order for me to see the text I type I need to be in run mode. Spent a long time redoing the lesson and restarting the program before I figured that out.
Is there a better step by step lesson I can follow for Mac
Also, doesn't seem like undo works at all.
I'm on a 2.4 GHz duo core MacBook Pro, 10.6 OS, 2 gigs of RAM.
Thanks for any help

Hi,
"undo" does work, but only for the last action and not for all actions
Please check these stacks here:

They will surely get you started!
And don't hesitate to ask questions here!

Re: Best lesson for Mac - Undo doesn't work
If I drag a button to the stack undo does not remove it. If I type a new label for a button undo does not undo it. Undo does not work.
And why doesn't it do multiple undos? I'm evaluatating this software for possible purchase and that seems like a deal breaker. Does it do multiple udo in paid version?

Hi,
You alway can delete that button by yourself.
When I enter a new label for a button and do CMD-Z the old label appears again, but only if the cursor is still in that field in the inspector palette.
Here in the forum we are only users that try to help other users, which is the meaning of a forum.
But you have no idea what you will be missing!

I have no idea, ask the company that produces and sells LiveCode.humenator@gmail.com wrote:And why doesn't it do multiple undos?

Well, then this might not be the software of choice for you.humenator@gmail.com wrote:I'm evaluatating this software for possible purchase and that seems like a deal breaker.

Thanks.
I know there is going to be a way to accomplish about anything with this. I just can't find a good true true beginners tutorial anywhere here. Any suggestions?

Hi,
check the LiveCode menu: Help -> Resource Center/Start Center
And check some of the stacks in the link in my first posting, maybe nr. 1, 2, and 3 as a start.
The learning curve IS in fact a bit steep, but you will get highly rewareded if you don't give up
You can also check the RunRev titorial webpage:
http://www.runrev.com/developers/lesson ... tutorials/
Chin up and keep smiling
Best

Re: Best lesson for Mac - Undo doesn't work
You DO have multiple undo, but only in certain areas. The ones that really matter, in fact.
You are confronting "undo" in a way that is really ancillary to the world I hope you reconsider entering. The undo that you are familiar with, say in a word processing program, where you can go back several steps, is relevant to the way one uses that particular software.
So while editing code in a text editor (called the "script editor") you do, in fact, have multiple undo. This is really the only place it is relevant.
Undoing a high level UI operation such as dragging a new object from a palette to another window is not really appropriate. You cannot appreciate this without getting involved in LiveCard.
But this is a place to make your own software; you can write a program that will implement that very feature in the UI.
Trust me. Try LiveCard.

Re: Best lesson for Mac - Undo doesn't work
Thanks guys,
This is definitely helping me get a start. I think I'm coming into this with some preconceived notions that I need to throw away. I've never done any programming beyond web page site way back in the day and playing around a little. The reason I'm getting into this is that I want to make enhanced eBooks. I have a production company that can make custom original music in any style that will sound like it is coming off the radio (which is how I've made my living) and a team of video directors and so on. From my research this seemed like a good way top get in without going back to school and learning code.
A little off topic... a mini rant.....
My little company needs to make at least one to demo our ideas (which are a little unusual) but we are being quoted prices of around 500K (US dollars) to build and I don't think they really get what we're doing.
I am a record producer and mixer with years of success gotten to by banging my head against the wall of computer recording and mixing (so called "in the box") and eventually figured it out and was one of a few people in the early 2000's to have charting success with songs done totally in a computer (now the norm).
I also have ideas for building apps to teach the things I've learned from producing and mixing music since the late 70s.
Fusing the old with the new and I really want to get into the app game.
Am I crazy to try this?

Klaus,
Did you make the stack on buttons I'm looking at? It's great! Thanks

Heh... with that background, sounds like you should have a lot in common with a certain Mr. Barncard.I am a record producer and mixer with years of success gotten to by banging my head against the wall of computer recording and mixing (so called "in the box") and eventually figured it out and was one of a few people in the early 2000's to have charting success with songs done totally in a computer (now the norm).

Maybe you guys can compare notes.

Hang in there... it's sometimes tough getting started, but once you have that first "ah-ha!" moment, you'll be hooked.
