Just Saying Hi

Post by DanShafer » Thu Feb 03, 2011 9:04 pm

Just thought I'd shout out a hello to my old Rev buddies (those that are still left after my years of absence) to say that I'm b-a-a-a-a-a-a-c-k! :D

I'm exploring LiveCode (like the "new" [to me] moniker) both for iPhone and for Web app development. Since I stopped using Rev day to day a few years back because it wasn't really Web ready, I've latched onto a dev platform there I really like (NOLOH) but it does require me to write PHP code which I'd rather not. So I'm going to be looking at how adept it is at producing real Web apps and also at whether it makes iPhone development graceful enough that I'm willing to do that rather than sticking with my current plans to do only Web apps and have versions for smartphones all done in HTML/CSS/JS.

Anyway, it's fun to be back and it's amazing to me how much scripting I remember after being away for so long. Of course I have to get up to speed on new features, but I enjoy that sort of stuff.

Dan,

Welcome back!
I think you'll find the runrev team is doing a nice job of constant improvement even as they offer a profusion of products.

Wow, is this real?

Will you go to the RunRevLive Conference?

Will you say hi on the use list?

Hi,

Since "Dan" posted only one message and didn't send a message to the mailing list, while the real Dan seems to have moved on to different development platforms, I start to think that this is just a joke and perhaps the moderators should take care of it.

Best,

Dan Shafer is a long-time Rev user, and a partner of Chipp Walters. There's nothing offensive in the post, so this moderator sees no reason to take action here.

If this is important to you you're welcome to write to Dan directly to confirm that this was indeed him. For myself, I see nothing here which requires removal or editing at this time.

Hi FourthWorld,

I didn't say there was anything offensive in this post. I'm only thinking that this might be a joke. If the moderators of this forum are sure that the original message is genuine, then there is no reason to remove it.

Best,

I can't speak for the other moderators, but for myself I consider it outside the bounds of my responsibilities to personally verify that every post made to these forums is genuine.

In the US we have a legal principle which seems useful here as well: "The burden of proof is on the plaintiff."

If you have material evidence that the post is somehow not "genuine" (such as an email from Dan saying it wasn't him) I would happily consider some relevant action.

No, FourthWorld, I gladly help to keep this forum clean, but I don't have the possibility to verify the origin of a message, while you, as an administrator, do have this possibility. I'm not saying it is your responsibility, but it isn't mine either. In other words, I don't care. This is my last contribution to this thread.

Best,

You could write Dan and ask him. All I can do is look at the IP, but that may only suggest something odd it offers no real evidence (ever use TOR?). Ultimately, I'd be in the same boat you're in: I'd have to write Dan to ask him.

If this isn't important enough for an email then I'm with you, happy to just let this go.
