A few questions about plug-ins...

Post by AtoZ » Wed Mar 07, 2012 1:33 am

I'm working with the 30-day trial version of LiveCode 5.0 using Windows XP.

I just activated the revSmartSave plugin from the Development menu. (I saw it recommended elsewhere in the forum.) It seems like it ought to be a useful thing, but the interface doesn't appear to be working for me.

Nothing happens when I click anywhere on it's window, so I can't select how often to save. I've tried restarting LiveCode, but that didn't help either.

Do I need to do something beside just select it from the menu to activate it? Are there perhaps some restrictions on using plugins during the free trial?

There are no restrictions in the trial that prevent using plugins. It's always activated for me so I'm not sure what's wrong. Did you have a stack open when you choose it from the plugins menu? Maybe it needs that.

Jacque-

I just tried the SmartSave plugin and it doesn't seem to do anything. I don't remember actually trying it out before, but it looks like I should be able to select a time period (I can't) or possibly move what looks like a slider (I can't). It just sits there.

Odd. Mine works okay, I can move the slider and (presumably) it tracks the time and saves. I don't actually use it myself, but when I open it, it's functional. I'm on OS X though, maybe it fails on a different OS?

I'm not at my OSX machine right now, but I tried it with linux (Fedora Core 16) and Win XP and it does nothing on both those platforms.

Might be worth a bug report. The plugin is pretty old and hasn't been updated for years. I know some people do use it though, so RR should probably take a look.

OK - just had a chance to try this on OSX - the plugin looks and works fine on Snow Leopard. There's a nice looking scrollbar to pull down. That's more than I can say for the other two platforms, where there's this gray area on the screen that I suppose you're supposed to recognize as something that can be dragged. But it's *behind* the text field next to it, so you can only grab it off to the left of the text. And there's no indication of where that is.

I don't care enough about it to write up a bug report, but you're welcome to do so.
