hgrid print problems

Hi, we've got an order form. It used to print no problems--wysiwyg. It uses fields and you can change various options with checkboxes.
The problem specifically concerns the hgrid option. Originally this printed a 1 pixel horizontal grid (a line beneath each row entry)
After version 5.02 (I think) it stopped printing in wysiwyg style.
Has anyone else noticed this?
It shows fine on-screen but what is actually printed is a thick double line beneath rows and two vertical lines fore and after (this is independant of the field borders and displays even if showBorder is false)
It has made our order forms unusable (and the boss wants the hgrid)--I have suggested text baselines but he doesn't want them.
Any suggestions welcome.
