Android on Samsung Galaxy Tab

Post by Johdu » Wed Mar 09, 2011 11:43 am

I thought this might be worth sharing... I configured a virtual android device - as per the lesson here:
http://lessons.runrev.com/spaces/lesson ... r-on-a-PC-

That was fine, and works perfectly.

My issue, however was with configuring a physical device. Two issues:
1 - the device I originally wanted to use only runs Android 2.1 and that (at the moment) is not supported
2 - my alternative device is a Samsung Galaxy Tab - but OEM USB support for this is appeared to be poorly documented (by Google and Samsung).

However - and this is the reason for my posting here - I have now located a USB driver and LiveCode now communicates with the Galaxy Tab perfectly. :D

For anyone else who follows me. Here's the link to the GT Driver:

Note: you will need to register with the site to obtain the download.

Hi Johdu,

I'm interested in looking at LC on Android, can I just clarify something you said. Do you mean LC only supports Android V2.2 and above?

Cheers

Martin

Martin, Yes, unfortunately LiveCode (currently) requires a minimum of Android version 2.2.

The pre-release notes state:
Important: The LiveCode Android engine currently supports Android devices running version 2.2 and higher. We are currently investigating the possibility of supporting version 2.1 also.

The difficulty is that a good percentage of people (like me, hoping to develop software for Android) were probably early adopters and have older versions. If 2.1 is supported in the near future that would be excellent - but I can see that the focus will probably be on developing support for version 3.0 and onwards!

Hi Johdu, thanks for sharing this info.
Where exactly did you install the Galaxy Tab driver. I downloaded it and it automatically
downloaded it to my Program files directory.
I'm still left with the same problem of being unable to test my program on the Samsung Galaxy tablet
Many thanks for your help
