Do I have to "pony up" to develop LC Apps?

Post by martimer » Tue Jun 25, 2013 10:26 pm

I am brand new to LiveCode and have developed my first application. I want to be able to run it on iOS and Android (and Windows/MacOS but this will likely be better as a really portable app). I am able to build the MacOS version but keep running in to flack for the iOS and Android builds.

I was a Mac and iPhone developer before it cost any money and am not really interested in ponying up $200/year for a program that will not be sold or used by more than 4 people. Is there any way to acquire the necessary certificates and provisions for personal app development? I do not recall being warned that extra money would be required to develop with LC for other platforms than my desktop computer.

Also, does anybody know how activate the Android SDK stuff to develop for Android? I got the SDK and have run the Android installer (from the Terminal) and have installed everything that I think the LC software is looking for, but it keeps telling me I have to activate it.

Hi martimer,
Welcome to the forum ! :)

For iOS you will need an Apple developer licence. This is an Apple requirement, I'm sure RunRev would be happier if they didn't require it . $99.00 (?) for a year, that would allow you ad-hoc distributions to 100 of your friends. You could use the free Community version of LC but you couldn't release to the app store.

Thank you for the reply. It has been (obviously) a few years since I did any of this stuff. Being an Apple Developer used to be free (pre-iOS).

I am not sure why I did not know about the requirement to join the newer iOS Developer program before I bought the commercial version of Livecode, but such is life. This hobby is getting expensive, again.
