Re: Ciao
Your contributions here have been much appreciated. If my recent decision to close a thread seems out of place, please consider writing to support AT runrev.com. I made the decision, not them, and they may well disagree with it, and I do sincerely feel your contributions here have been valuable. I'd be happy to reconsider the decision in discussion with the site owners, and of course they can reverse the lock themselves if they feel it's in the best interest of the community to do so.
It may be helpful to note that only the thread has been closed. The poster who began the thread was encouraged to ask his more advanced questions regarding externals development in the section dedicated to that topic. No infractions have been issued, no accounts have been closed, no posts were deleted, no further action of any kind has been taken.
I appreciated your suggestion elsewhere that the OP of the recently-closed thread be given an opportunity to have the last post there. Were this a debate forum I would be more keen to investing the energy to see that through, but as a practical matter there simply isn't a way, at least as far as I know, to allow a thread to remain open for one user while closing it for others. Given the uncommon frequency of posts to that thread, with the original question well addressed it seemed simpler to just encourage future questions in the appropriate sections.
Everyone here is free to continue posting according to the uncommonly liberal policies of this forum's TOS. But as you did here, it's considerate to post in an appropriate section.

Re: Ciao
I had overlooked this in my initial reply, but it's significant enough that it merits clarification:[-hh] wrote:But I don't like moderators who are collecting emails of forum members. I've enough spam.
For the benefit of all forum members let me please note that AFAIK none of the volunteer moderators here has access to the email addresses of any forum members. The interface we use for moderating the forums does not display any account's email address.
I would be interested to learn how you got that impression, but please rest assured that AFAIK only RunRev employees have access to those.

Re: Ciao
In that second thread you'd started I noted that the original had run its course and that I would prefer not to have it continued. Accordingly, in that second thread I also noted that the second thread itself would be deleted after I'd heard back from you. I invited you to email me if you wanted to as a friendly gesture, but of course there was no requirement that you do so. It was only after you'd communicated back to me through this thread that the second thread was deleted.[-hh] wrote:I opened a thread in the beginner-forum about closing a thread in the beginner-forum. Judge this wish as you want. But you first closed and then deleted *my* thread...
Nothing in the original thread which gave rise to this drama has been deleted.
No account has had any infractions placed against it of any kind.
On the contrary, in that original thread, as in this one, I have encouraged the poster to submit his questions on more advanced topics in the appropriate section.
And had I been able to anticipate the degree of inconvenience deleting that second thread has apparently caused you, I would have left it in in place as well. Please accept my apologies for that.
It seems the uncommonly broad policies of the RunRev forum have given rise to uncommonly high expectations for forum moderation, so let's do our best to meet them:
To avoid any further misunderstandings, do as you like.
Post whatever you like whenever you like on any topic you like.
As a courtesy to the other members I would ask that you please make your posts in the appropriate sections.
I'll abstain from further moderation until Heather, the forum manager, has had an opportunity to review this situation and offer her guidance.

Hi Hermann,
While you do leave me thinking I should have paid more attention during Maths, it would be a loss not to have your contributions here.
Yes, I followed the whole thread in question and it was full of miscommunication, really too bad.
At any rate, I'd miss reading your posts.

You didn't mention cheese... or is that only a banned topic on the use listTo avoid any further misunderstandings, do as you like.

Everyone try and stay calm. I'm sure Richard never meant to offend anyone.

Re: Ciao
Yes, Richard goes out of his way to avoid offending anyone. The poster's attack style disturbed me. He misinterpreted the response of one of our most helpful members and turned on him across more than one post.
I was composing a reply to his initial question to explain why he doesn't see more app examples when I saw his response style, and decided not to participate.
We're a pretty easy going community here and one of the most welcoming. I think allowing the thread to continue would only have escalated it.
Hermann, no one has access to email addresses here, not even the moderators.

Re: Ciao
Thank you for your kind words, -hh. I've always valued your contributions here, and appreciate your recognizing my deletion of that second short thread as a misunderstanding.
I hope you'll continue to participate here going forward. And I'll do a better job of clarifying the very rare cases where any post might get deleted (except for spammers - any ads for Ugh boots or pharmaceuticals or will continued to be squashed on sight <g>).
