Is there a problem with On-Rev Forums? I've been attempting to log in for a couple of days to http://forums.on-rev.com/.. Getting a Forbidden access message and bother else..
Just Wondering.

Re: On-Rev Forums
Hi David,
Yes, I always have huge problems when I have to log in on the forum after resetting all cookies in my browser. Usually, I try to find a way to restore the cookie for the forum, because it is almost impossible to log in the regular way. Also, I have noticed that clicking a link in an e-mail from the forum sometimes asks you to log in while a bookmark to http://forums.runrev.com/phpBB2/index.php still uses previously stored cookies.
It seems that the captcha is the source of this problem. Usually, the captcha's are completely unreadable. There are options in the forum software to make the captcha easier to read, but I suppose RunRev doesn't know about them. Even if I'm convinced I solved the captcha, my solution is still not accepted and the error shows up immediately after one attempt. I think that a setting in the forum software is mistakenly set to 0 or 1, while it should be at least 3 (attempts).
I reported this problem to RunRev support a long time ago and asked for help. I got a reply, but it was of no use to me. Nothing has changed since then. I don't think that RunRev knows what to do about it and I'm even not entirely sure that they can easily fix it, because I am having the same problem with a few other phpBB-based forums.
It has to be said, though, that my own forum never has this problem, because I dis/approve every registration manually, which avoids the need for a captcha and keeps spammers out. I don't understand why RunRev doesn't do this, because phpBB-based forums typically get 3 or 6 spurious registrations per day, which are very easy to recognise and can simply be ignored, while successful spurious automatically approved registrations cause a lot of work for the forum admins.
Kind regards,
Mark
