iOS sound recording

I'm pretty new to iOS development and don't see any tutorials on recording audio. Do I need to use the mergAV external to record audio? Are there other choices? mergAV looks very powerful, but perhaps overkill for audio only.

It's unfortunate that livecode does not seem to support more than just the basic functionality of the AVFoundation player on iOS.

Any input would be very helpful.
