Install Livecode 8 along 7.0.6 - without corrupting 7'stacks

Post by liveme » Wed Sep 16, 2015 6:20 pm

Hi Techies,

Som We're pushed to install LC 8... today's version. :D
Beside I've already created one communty 7.0.6 Edition projet or stacks and it is working well.

1) What's the guideline to install LC8 comunity ed. without screewing up my existing work ?

2) Can both be installed/used for sometime without interfering.
*I believe once converted to LC8 my stasks wont be working 100% under 7.0.6.

Thanks for guidance...

Hi liveme,

well, according to RunRev erm... Livecode, stack are interchangable between LC 7 and 8 as long as you do NOT use any widgets in LC 8!
Whatever, make backups and use LC 8 with copies and great care, it is still a developer preview! :D

Best

Tks Klauss,
hmm...yeah, why make it sounds like "we have to" switch to the new toy, if it's still a non safe/Beta ?...
anyway...

Anyone knows about running both versions along, LC7 and 8 in their (separate?) folders
... not a source of conflicts, right ?
:?:

Sorry, forgot to mention, I'm running 6.7.x, 7.x and 8.x without problems!

I've tried to open with LC 7 a stack that was created with LC 8. Impossible, I got a message that the stack was created with a newer version. No new feature used in the stack, though.

What happens when you use Save As in v8 and select the v7 format?

I tried that. You can choose between:
- Livecode Stack
- Legacy Livecode Stack (5.5)
- Legacy Livecode Stack (2.7)
- Legacy Livecode Stack (2.4)
I chose Legacy Livecode Stack (5.5) as the most recent, saved as, tried to reopen it in 7.1 and got the message above. I can't replicate the problem now, the stack opens all right in LiveCode Community 7.1 (rc 3).
I'm compelled to think I had left a version 8 feature in the stack.
